Why we have codes of conduct

A school is a living community. When adults and children share expectations openly, the school runs smoothly, safely and joyfully. These codes are the shared expectations for every member of the IBS family. They are read at the start of each academic year and signed by every pupil, staff member and parent as part of the enrolment or employment process.

๐ŸŽ“ Pupil Code of Conduct

Every pupil signs this
  1. Be honest — in speech, in your work, in your behaviour.
  2. Be punctual — on the compound by 7:30 AM, in your line for assembly by 7:45 AM.
  3. Wear your uniform cleanly and correctly. IBS colours are worn with pride.
  4. Show respect to every teacher, prefect, staff member, guest and fellow pupil — regardless of age, class or background.
  5. Give your best effort in every lesson, every homework, every assessment.
  6. Care for our compound — classrooms, desks, books, washrooms, grounds. Leave every space cleaner than you met it.
  7. No bullying — no fighting, no name-calling, no exclusion, no cyber-bullying. Ever.
  8. No mobile phones on the compound. JHS 3 may keep one in the office for after-school collection.
  9. Speak up if you see or feel something unsafe or unfair. Tell any adult, any prefect, or use the anonymous Suggestions channel.
  10. Represent IBS with pride in the community, on the bus, at events, and online.

My Pledge

“I will follow this code every day I am at IBS. I will speak up when I see something wrong. I will do my best. Christ is the key.”

๐Ÿ‘” Staff Code of Conduct

Every staff member signs this on joining and annually thereafter
  1. Put the child first in every decision.
  2. Follow the two-adult rule. Never be alone with a single pupil behind a closed door. Ever. Doors open or a second adult present.
  3. Prepare thoroughly — every lesson has a written plan, filed weekly with your HOD.
  4. Mark within one week. Feedback that names strengths and gives one clear next step.
  5. Speak to parents with courtesy. Document every substantial parent conversation.
  6. Handle pupil data as if it were your own child’s. Never share it outside authorised channels.
  7. Never accept gifts of value from parents or vendors that could influence judgement. Modest cultural gifts at Christmas are logged.
  8. Report concerns about a colleague through the correct channel, in confidence — not through gossip.
  9. Dress and speak professionally on the compound and online while identifiable as IBS staff.
  10. Attend CPD and safeguarding training. Both are mandatory. Missing a mandatory session is a disciplinary matter.
  11. Never smoke, consume alcohol, or use inappropriate language on the compound.
  12. Never accept private-tuition fees from a pupil you teach at IBS. Cross-teach only.
  13. Use IT correctly. Lock your screen, protect your password, report phishing.
  14. Report incidents promptly — safeguarding, safety, financial, technological.

My Pledge

“I accept these standards as part of my employment at IBS. I understand that failure to follow them may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.”

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Parent / Guardian Code of Conduct

Every enrolling parent signs this once at admission
  1. Support the school’s rules and reinforce them at home. IBS and home speak with one voice.
  2. Ensure your child is punctual, uniformed and prepared for every school day.
  3. Attend parent-teacher meetings and read all school communications sent home.
  4. Pay fees on time or agree a written plan with the Bursar in advance. Do not wait to be chased.
  5. Raise concerns through the correct channel — class teacher first, then HOD, then Assistant Head, then Headmaster. Do not skip steps.
  6. Address staff with respect on the compound and online. No public confrontations, no abusive messages.
  7. Never discipline another child on the compound. Report the incident to a teacher and let the school handle it.
  8. Follow the visitor protocol. Sign in at reception. Wear the visitor badge. Escorted at all times.
  9. Support the school’s Christian character even if your family holds different beliefs. Learners are respected regardless of background; we ask parents to respect the school’s ethos in return.
  10. Report anything worrying about your child’s safety or wellbeing at school immediately.

My Pledge

“I have read this Code of Conduct and agree to uphold it as part of my child’s enrolment at I.B.S Educational Complex.”

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ Prefect Code of Conduct

Every prefect signs this on election

Prefects are pupil leaders elected by their peers and confirmed by the Headmaster. Wearing the badge is an honour, but it is also a responsibility.

  1. Lead by example. You cannot enforce what you don’t live by.
  2. Never use your badge to punish. If a pupil needs consequences, escalate to the duty teacher.
  3. Speak up for pupils who are unheard or unsafe — especially the younger ones.
  4. Report weekly to your Prefects Council with what you have seen and heard.
  5. Model the values: honesty, kindness, respect, hard work.
  6. Serve without expecting reward. The honour is the reward.
  7. Confidentiality: what pupils share with you in trust stays with you — except in safeguarding matters.

My Pledge

“As an IBS prefect I will lead with humility, serve with joy, and speak up when needed. Christ is the key.”

Common commitments

Across all four codes, four commitments hold the community together:

  1. Safety first — every child, every day.
  2. Respect — regardless of role, age or background.
  3. Honesty — even when it costs.
  4. Excellence — the best we can each give.

These are the four things we ask of every person on the IBS compound.
